Clinical practice
Online vs in-person consultations: when to choose each
Online is not a downgrade of in-person; it is a different service. When each format wins and how to combine them.
Online consultation is not in-person-but-worse — it is a different product with its own clinical dynamic. Treated as such, it opens markets, improves margins, and lets you serve clients you would otherwise miss.
When in-person wins
- Complex anthropometry (skinfolds, bioimpedance, precise circumferences).
- Clients new to nutrition with low digital autonomy.
- Complex clinical cases where non-verbal language adds information.
When online wins
- Short follow-ups every 2-4 weeks.
- Clients with tight schedules or who travel.
- Small markets without local nutritionists.
- Known clients in maintenance.
Hybrid model
Most modern practices run better in hybrid format: first session in person (when possible), short online follow-ups, structured async messaging between sessions. Saves time on both sides without losing quality.
Frequently asked questions
What minimum tools do I need?
Video conferencing with optional recording, practice software with plans and payments, and structured async messaging. Three pieces, well integrated, are enough.
