Almendra API for developers

The Almendra API is a REST API for the software nutritionists, dietitians, coaches and personal trainers use every day. Connect an Almendra account to your own system, to Zapier or to an AI agent: read and update patients, appointments, meal plans, foods, recipes and clinical data.

At a glance

  • Base URL: https://api.almendra.io/openapi/v1
  • Specification: OpenAPI 3.1
  • Reference: API reference, with every operation, the permission it needs and examples.
  • Authentication: an API key in Authorization: Bearer <key>. Each key belongs to one professional account and has its own permissions.
  • Rate limit: 600 requests per minute per key, with the RateLimit and RateLimit-Policy headers; a 429 carries Retry-After.
  • Errors: JSON with a stable error.code on every 4xx and 5xx response.
  • Versioning: changes within v1 are additive only. Breaking changes ship as /openapi/v2, with Deprecation and Sunset headers at least 6 months ahead.

Get an API key

  1. Create an Almendra account: it's free and needs no credit card.
  2. The API is included in paid plans: choose one in Pricing.
  3. In Almendra, go to Settings › Developers › API Keys, click Create API key, choose its permissions and copy it (it's only shown once).

Step-by-step guide: How to connect Almendra to other tools.

First request

curl https://api.almendra.io/openapi/v1/patients \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ALMENDRA_API_KEY"

What you can do

  • Patients: list, create, read and edit (patients:read, patients:write).
  • Appointments: list, book, reschedule and delete (appointments:read, appointments:write).
  • Service plans: list plans and a patient's active plan (health_plans:read).
  • Meal plans: list, create, edit and send to the patient (meal_plans:read, meal_plans:write).
  • Foods, recipes and exchange groups: search, create and edit (library:read, library:write).
  • Clinical data: clinical history, consultations with notes and measurements, and progress photos (clinical:read).

Webhooks

Get notified when a meal plan is sent (meal_plan.sent), a consultation is completed (consultation.completed) or a patient completes their form (form.completed). Register HTTPS endpoints in Settings › Developers › Webhooks. Notifications carry ids only and are signed with HMAC-SHA256 in the Almendra-Signature header.

MCP server for AI assistants

ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients connect to https://api.almendra.io/mcp with OAuth, without an API key. See Almendra MCP server.
