How to connect Almendra to other tools (API and webhooks)
Create an API key in Settings > Developers > API Keys, choose its permissions and, if you like, add webhooks so your tool hears about what happens in Almendra.
Updated October 28, 2026
With the Almendra API you can connect your account to other tools: Zapier, a system built for you or another AI assistant. The API is available on paid plans.
Using ChatGPT or Claude? You don’t need a key: connect them directly with How to use Almendra from ChatGPT and Claude. The assistant has its own permissions and doesn’t do everything an API key does: that article lists what it can do.
What can a connected tool do?
- See, create and edit patients.
- See, book, reschedule and delete appointments. Rescheduling also moves the Google Calendar event, the Zoom meeting and the patient’s reminder.
- See your service plans.
- See, create, edit and send meal plans (day by day, flexible or exchange).
- Create and edit your foods, recipes and exchange groups, and look up a food when you need one. Search is limited on purpose to protect Almendra’s food database: it shows the 5 best matches and allows 50 searches a day per account.
- See clinical data: clinical history, consultation notes, measurements and lab results, and progress photos.
How do I create an API key?
- Go to Settings › Developers › API Keys.
- Click Create API key and give it a name (for example “Zapier”).
- Choose its permissions: what the key can see or change. Tick only what the tool needs.
- Copy the key and paste it into your tool. For security, it’s only shown once.
You can change a key’s permissions at any time with Edit permissions, without creating a new one.
Clinical data is sensitive. A key can only read clinical histories, notes, lab results and photos if you tick the Clinical data permission. Only turn it on for tools you trust. Keys you created before permissions existed keep working as before (patients, appointments and service plans) and can’t see clinical data.
What are webhooks?
A webhook lets your tool know when something happens in Almendra, without it having to keep asking. You can be notified when:
- you send a meal plan,
- you finish a consultation (with its notes, measurements and lab results),
- a patient completes their form before the consultation.
To add one, go to Settings › Developers › Webhooks and click Add webhook. Enter the address (it must start with https://), choose the events and save. Send test checks that your tool receives it.
Notifications only include ids, never health data: your tool reads the details with its API key and permissions. Every notification is signed; each webhook’s Secret is used to check it comes from Almendra.
Where is the technical documentation?
In Settings › Developers › API Keys, the View Docs button opens the full API reference, with every operation, the permission it needs and how to verify webhooks.
